Jetwave Nelson Point

Second custom lines boat for Jetwave Marine

This is the second new vessel we have built for Jetwave Marine, which provides specialised offshore utility vessels and marine based services to oil, gas and resource industries across Australia.

Jetwave Marine owns and operates a variety of harbour tugs, utility vessels, accommodation vessels, barges, multi-cats and port service vessels that cater for all client requirements. Jetwave Marine operates Australia-wide, and Fremantle, Exmouth, Onslow, Dampier, Port Hedland, Point Samson, Broome and Darwin are just a few of the ports in which it has undertaken projects.

As with our first lines boat / personnel transfer vessel (Jetwave Stanley Point) Jetwave Nelson Point operates out of Port Hedland. Custom designed by Southerly Designs, the work boat can perform a variety of harbour services tasks including line handling, crew/personnel transfer and survey operations.

Otherwise essentially identical to Jetwave Stanley Point, the bow and forward sections of Jetwave Nelson Point have been modified to enable it work further outside the port in harsher sea conditions than its predecessor, which predominantly works  in the inner harbour.

The two vessels have identical propulsion packages comprising of a single diesel engine and waterjet. These give a maximum loaded speed of 29 knots while also enabling efficient operations at 26 knots (85% MCR) and delivering at least 1.2 tonnes bollard pull.

Other features of this custom work boat include:

  • A towing post rated to 2.5 tonnes;
  • Protective cage and mesh guard to enhance personnel safety; and
  • Heavy duty bow fendering.

Jetwave Marine also uses the vessel to transfer personnel / ships crews so Jetwave Nelson Point is designed, built and equipped to AMSA NSCV 2D survey for up to six passengers and two crew.

This project extends Dongara Marine’s credentials as a supplier of high quality, customised port and harbour services vessels. In the five years leading up to Jetwave Nelson Point’s delivery in mid-2020, we also supplied three Berkeley Class Pilot Boats – Berkeley, AMG Winyama, and Genesis as well as Jetwave Stanley Point and a Bulldog Class work boat.

“The performance of Jetwave Nelson Point is absolutely sensational. It handles beautifully. We are very impressed.

“The quality of the workmanship is also excellent, as it always is with Dongara Marine. There’s no cutting corners with them, and the pride they take in their work really shows through.”
