Genesis

HSA Marine was the client for this ultra-efficient pilot boat, our second Berkeley Class pilot boat to operate from the port of Fremantle.

Delivered in June 2019 it joined Fremantle Pilots’ Berkeley, which had already been operating with great success in the Western Australian port since 2015.

Purpose-designed to maximise overall operability and the safety and comfort of pilots and crew even in demanding sea conditions, the Berkeley Class provides:

  • High open water speed for fast transits;
  • Extreme stability with confirmed self-righting;
  • High levels of seakeeping, directional control, and manoeuvrability;
  • Superior dryness; and
  • Enhancing habitability through reduced noise, vibration, and heat transfer.

We tailored Genesis to the specific requirements and preferences of Harbour Services Australia (HSA Marine). This included HSA becoming the first operator to select the twin Scania DI16 076M powering option.

This contributed to the vessel’s fuel consumption being approximately 30 per cent less than earlier Berkeleys at the same operating speed.

Whereas the preceding Berkeley Class are all dedicated to pilot transfers, Genesis has a more diversified role, also transferring surveyors, ships agents, and crew between ship and shore.

“It’s an extremely high quality build and finish throughout, certainly well beyond what you expect to find in a work boat. That quality, the attention to detail, the customer service, and all round ease of getting the boat exactly how we wanted … [are] … not easy to find, but we certainly found it with Dongara Marine and the Berkeley Class.”
