AMG Winyama
The success of the Berkeley Class pilot boat was underlined through a second vessel being ordered and delivered within 12 months of the first entering service.
Argonaut Marine Group ordered its new vessel for the port of Dampier after it was impressed by the performance and quality of the first Berkeley Class.
Reflecting our customer-centric approach, we incorporated a number of changes from Berkeley into AMG Winyama to reflect both different operating conditions and the client’s preferences. These included using lower powered main engines and utilising polished copper nickel piping to provide higher corrosion resistance in the harsh Pilbara operating region.
Argonaut’s wishes for fast delivery were also met, with the vessel being built in just seven months.
Delivery of AMG Winyama enabled its performance to be directly and independently compared with that of another contemporary pilot launch then operating in Port Hedland.
The testing demonstrated, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the advantages of the Berkeley Class design including being 21 per cent faster and 12 per cent more fuel efficient.

“We were impressed with the quality Dongara Marine instilled throughout. AMG Winyama has certainly lived up to the high expectations we had based on the Berkeley. The design provides an amazing ride at speed, especially in heavy weather, and is very dry.”
