8.3 metre RIB
Custom waterjet propelled rigid inflatable
This rigid inflatable boat (RIB) was the first to be built by Dongara Marine for a private customer, who uses it for a variety of leisure pursuits such as diving and fishing.
Reflecting this, the design includes provision for carrying dive bottles, and the boat is also be fitted with a line hauler for fishing pots / traps. The primary intended area of operations is in coastal and restricted offshore areas along the Western Australian coast. This includes operations in both deep and shallow waters.
To provide high speed and shallow draft, the boat is fitted with waterjet propulsion and a single inboard diesel engine.
From the drawing board of Southerly Designs, this 8.3 metre long monohull commenced construction at our facility in late 2020. The hull is aluminium and is fitted with an inflatable collar.
The design features a centre console for helm and navigation, which is sheltered overhead by a fixed, solid bimini that Dongara Marine manufactured from high tech composite materials.
At the owner’s request the boat’s centre console was purposely designed for maximum width to provide extra protection from wind and spray for two seated personnel. They are also sheltered by a full height wraparound windscreen.
In addition to two high quality marine suspension seats behind the console, the RIB has individual seats aft, either side of a transom gate that leads to a marlin board / swim platform. The engine box is also fitted with an upholstered cushion for additional seating or sunbaking.
The interior of the console is fitted out with a marine toilet and for use as a storage compartment.
“Our willingness and ability to accommodate specific customer requests was a key factor in the client choosing to build with us. That’s the benefit of dealing with a fully custom boatbuilder.”
