High speed vessel expands the capabilities of elite search and rescue squad
In March 2024 Dongara Marine handed over a fast patrol boat that law enforcement personnel in Australia’s Northern Territory can rely on to deliver superior performance, safety, and reliability whether it is patrolling coastal waters or responding to emergency situations.
The 8.4 metre PV Deutrom was purpose designed, built, and equipped for police operations requiring very high speed and the ability to carry multiple personnel. Dongara Marine also supplied a custom, heavy duty aluminium trailer to enable the vessel to be used throughout the Territory’s diverse and often remote maritime landscape.
The Northern Territory Minister for Police, Brent Potter, made the following announcement on 21 June 2024.
The Lawler Labor Government is giving Police the resources they need to keep Territorians safe.
Today, on the water for the first time is a new $540,000 Search and Rescue high speed response
vessel that can reach speeds of up to 50 knots (92kms).
The 8.4m metre vessel named ‘PV Deutrom’ features radar, Raymarine navigations,
communications systems and is powered by twin 300hp Mercury outboard engines which are
essential for our highly specialised Search and Rescue squad to undertake a range of waterborne
police operations to keep Territorians safe.
This is the latest addition to the Northern Territory’s Police Force’s fleet of resources, expanding
their operational capabilities and ensuring our front line is as efficient and effective as possible.
This vessel reflects the commitment of the Lawler Labor Government to ensure our Police are
well prepared to keep out communities safe and follows a record $570 million investment over
five years, which is additional to the 2024 Police Budget of $561 million.
This record investment underscores the Lawler Government’s common sense plan which includes
200 more front line officers on our streets, a major Territory wide infrastructure program, greater
training for officers, more vehicles and better resources in our emergency call centre.
Comments attributed to Minister for Police, Brent Potter:
"Every second, of everyday, everywhere in the Territory our front line is working hard to keep
Territorians safe, and the Lawler Government is making sure every officer has what they need to
do their job.
"The addition of the brand new high speed vessel expands the capabilities of our elite search and
rescue squad, a squad which encounters some of the toughest conditions in the Territory and all
of Australia."
